Gorokan Guardian knitting morning tea

A big thank you for my staff, Zee, Shelly and Max for organising our Guardian knitters morning tea 2019. A special thank you to Davia from Sigma for attending and helping us out too.

2019 has been another eventful year for us at Gorokan Guardian. We have helped many organisations and homeless around our area and we could not have done it without support from our local knitters. Thank you also to our loyal Gorokan Guardian angels group who has been active throughout the year. We at Gorokan Guardian love you all.

It is important to recognize that knitting has been intertwined with social issues for centuries. For a long time, knitting garments, bed linens and other essential items were among the few ways women and men were able to gather for hours and talk by themselves. In “No Idle Hands: The Social History of American Knitting,” published in 1988, Anne L. Mcdonald charts the roles knitters played during both wartime, galvanizing support and providing clothing for troops, and peacetime, supporting political movements across the centuries.

Not only knitting supports and galvanise politics but it also has been the forefront of many difficult but important conversations.

Locally we have been very active this year. From St Vincent’s DePaul to the homeless around our area to all the different community projects and hospitals that the guardian angels has been involved.

From the deepest of my heart I would like to thank everyone here for your support to the cause. Your hard work has given us at Gorokan pharmacy and everyone a beacon of hope and support in dark times. It also serves as a call to reflection.
