About Coeliac Disease

The digestive system is responsible for two major roles in the body. It extracts all the important nutrients from food, and it also protects us from bad bacteria and disease. It is important to take good care of your digestive system and give it the support it needs.

Most digestive health symptoms such as diarrhoea, constipation, stomach cramps and bloating are quite common. In fact, half of the Australian population experience a digestive health problem each year.1

These symptoms are often linked to changes in diet or lifestyle. They might be brought on by stress or dependent on a woman’s menstrual cycle. But these symptoms are also common in people who have Coeliac Disease.2 So if you suffer from tummy troubles on a more regular basis, you might want to get it checked out.

Did you know?

Reflux, abdominal bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, fatigue, even numbness/tingling in hands or feet, are common signs of Coeliac Disease.

Coeliac Disease is a common condition that affects around 1 in every 70 Australians.3 It is estimated that around 80% of people with Coeliac Disease do not know they have it. Coeliac Disease is an autoimmune disease, where the body attacks its own intestine whenever gluten is ingested. This makes the small intestine inflamed and reduces its ability to absorb essential nutrients.4

If you have Coeliac Disease, removing gluten from your diet can help to improve or eliminate your digestive symptoms.

We will help you assess if you might benefit from our Coeliac Screening Test, which we conduct in the pharmacy.
